Project Description
Baoxing Beijing Golf Course, is a 54 hole golf project in the third ring of Beijing city, in Northeast China. It is a private golf course that originally had three golf courses, with low design quality and maintenance.
The new owners want to create a golf destination for Beijing citizens and tourists, with outstanding design and performance.
In 2017 the owners company, after a selection process, hired our team to prepare a routing plan, planning designs and construction documents for a completely new 54 hole golf course.
The site is a plain close to two rivers, with nice sandy soil, and locust, poplar and maple woods. We thoroughly studied the site and made a small market study to decide how to arrange the golf courses. We suggested to create three radically different golf courses: a Championship Course, with standards for PGA tournaments, a Links course, and a garden course, a style that is of the like of many Chinese players following the Japanese gardening style.
The concept was approved and works started soon, being the Championship Course the first to be built.
Works started in April 2018 and the par 72 6.766 meters playing distance was built and grassed in 132 days, by September 2018. We had never built a golf course that fast.
Chinese and Thai shapers delivered a good work that was personally supervised, requiring me to stay long time at the site. All marking of greens, bunker shapes, lake shapes, creeks, cart paths, fairway shapes, was done hand work by me.
The grow-in works prepared the course for the rough Beijing winter in fall 2018, and re-started in March 2019, with the course ready to play by June 2019. The course has been a success.
