Project Description
Costa Daurada Golf course is located 100 km south of Barcelona, in the well-known area of “La Costa Daurada”, Tarragona.
In 1975 the founders of this member course selected Spanish former amateur champion and golf course designer Pepe Gancedo, to build a 9 hole golf course in a very interesting hilly site at the Tarragona wood’s area. In 1989 the board decided to enlarge the course to 18 holes and awarded us with the project. The course was set at a 72, about 6.300 m in length.
In 2013 following changes in the Urban Plan for Tarragona, the course has to be remodelled, as some holes were to be occupied by residential homes. We were awarded a whole redesign contract that concluded, after several alternatives, in a 72 par 6.307 meter length course. We had to build 5 new holes, fully redesign the rest of the course and create a new 18 hole par 3 course, in order to offer a larger supply of products for the golf player’s demands, now being both members and visitors.
The course melts into the wooded hills perfectly, creating a peaceful and challenging experience for all type of golfers. Being this area environmentally and archeologically sensitive, the permitting process required a large set of specific studies that seriously conditioned the design possibilities, and fixed strict construction procedures.
The course opened in 2017 and successfully hosted the golf competition for the Mediterranean Games in 2018.
